Kitāb al-Ghaybah by Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Nuʿmānī represents the earliest surviving compilation focused on the theme of Occultation (ghaybah), preserving authentic traditions transmitted from the Infallibles (PBUT) pertaining to this subject. In this work, al-Nuʿmānī adopts a distinctive analytical approach, drawing upon authoritative sources to expound upon discourses related to the Occultation. This study, employing a descriptive-analytical method, investigates al-Nuʿmānī’s ḥadīth hermeneutics (fiqh al-ḥadīth) and the documentary (sanadī) principles he employs to elucidate the significance of the transmitted material. The examination encompasses his categorization of Traditions, reference to Qur’ānic verses, commentary on Narrations, parallel chains of transmission (isnād), and biographical (rijālī) investigation. Al-Nuʿmānī’s methodological framework is designed to furnish a thorough and substantiated account of the Occultation of Imām al-Mahdī (PBUH), thereby enabling the reader to attain a more profound comprehension of this doctrine and its attendant discourses. As such, this text is acknowledged as a authoritative reference within the Occultation literature.
