In the ninety-third session (majlis) of his treatise al-Amālī, Shaykh al-Ṣadūq addresses several doctrinal and jurisprudential issues. The preface to this session records that a group of scholars and elders approached Shaykh al-Ṣadūq requesting him to expound upon the doctrine of the Imāmiyya school. In response to this request, Shaykh al-Ṣadūq briefly referred to a number of theological and jurisprudential discussions, promising to elaborate and explain these inquiries at a more opportune time in the future. Since the eleventh century, Shīʿa jurists have considered this specific session of al-Amālī as a source for the inference (istinbāṭ) of religious rulings, utilizing the legal opinions (fatāwā) of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq within the process of legal reasoning (Ijtihād). A notable point is the varied usage of this session by Shīʿa jurists, with each approaching it from a distinct methodology. This research, employing a library-based methodology with a descriptive-analytical approach, endeavours to demonstrate, through a precise examination of this session and the typologies of Imāmiyya jurists' interaction with it, that the fatāwā of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq lack independent efficacy in the domain of istinbāṭ. This is due, on the one hand, to the significant discrepancy and inconsistency between these opinions and other fatāwā and traditions, and on the other hand, to the obscurity (ijmāl) of the expressions used. These fatāwā can, therefore, only serve as one piece of corroborating evidence alongside other utilized documents.
