Indeed, the All-Wise Lawgiver (shāriʿ) has pursued specific goals in articulating Islamic teachings, which can be identified as the objectives of Islamic legislation (maqāṣid al-sharīʿah). However, a significant portion of the Traditions, conveying these teachings exhibit discrepancies, leading to contradictions among the narrations. The utilization of the objectives of Islamic legislation as a standard to resolve this aforementioned challenge has not received sufficient attention. Employing an exploratory-analytical method and relying on library-based sources, this study seeks to elucidate the effectiveness of utilizing the “objectives of the Islamic legislation” as a decisive factor in removing contradictions among narrations. To achieve this, following the conceptual clarification of this component and establishing the permissibility of its use as a preferential factor (murajjiḥ), specific instances are introduced where a strategy for resolving established contradictions has been provided through an understanding of the objectives of the legislation. Some of the most significant of these cases include: attention to temporal and spatial conditions, the non-exclusivity of the objectives, consideration of moral goals in jurisprudence, attention to the predominant nature of certain specific rulings, and the preservation of human dignity and values. The research outcome is that a precise understanding of both the general objectives of legislation and the specific objectives underlying the enactment of a family of rulings can resolve a portion of the challenge posed by such contradictions.
