The promise of “non-recording of sins” as a reward for certain deeds is among the divine good tidings that find meaning within the scope of His boundless mercy. However, the apparent meaning of this expression has raised significant doubts. These include the misconception of its contradiction with the verses of the Holy Quran, which indicate the precise recording of deeds, and the accusation that such content could lead to permissiveness and laxity towards sins. This research, with a descriptive-analytical approach, seeks to semantically explore this concept and address the surrounding doubts based on Imami hadith sources. According to the findings of this study, the intended meaning of this expression is the non-recording of sin as an opportunity for repentance and an indication of supererogatory pardon and conditional exemption, rather than the absolute negation of the effects of sin. Furthermore, through a semantic and inter-narrative re-examination of these hadiths, in addition to resolving the doubt of contradiction, their relationship with the principle of “lifting of the pen” (raf’ al-qalam) and their scope of indication in Imami hadith studies are precisely clarified.
