The concept of "martyrdom" is primarily associated with being killed in the way of God, but a narration from Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) in "Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih" has applied the term "martyr" to every believer – even to one who dies in his bed. This research, using a descriptive-analytical method, has examined the documentary and semantic aspects of this narration in light of verse 19 of Surah Al-Hadid. The findings show that al-Saduq's chain of transmission is weak, but the recurrence of this theme in multiple sources indicates a conceptual frequency (istifadah ma'nawiyyah) that compensates for the weakness in the chain. In the semantic analysis, the narration of al-Saduq is fully compatible with four interpretative categories (Ilhaq, testimony to deeds, objectivity, bi-manzilah), and its contradiction with the other two can be resolved through the theory of "Ilhaq". The restrictive narrations confine general martyrdom to a believer who is knowledgeable about the Imam, awaits his advent (faraj), possesses a jihadi intention, and loves the Ahl al-Bayt. The narration of Nahj al-Balaghah, together with the hadith of "I'dad al-Sahm", introduces the basis of martyrdom as sincere jihadi intention. Therefore, the narration of al-Saduq is acceptable through the semantic expansion of martyrdom within the framework of the theory of "Ilhaq" and the aforementioned restrictions.
